Summer Glut - Prize or Problem?

This Workshop is probably going to be the most free-range of the whole year! There are so many candidates to contribute to the Summer Glut and it can be overwhelming. Maybe we should start with some meditation, light some candles, read some poetry just to calm down and get a little perspective on the situation.

Personally I feel that those who grow as much food as possible do just that - waaaay too much food. The problem being, if you are a gardner, you know that there is always something that is there to get you just as you are ready to harvest, whether it is bugs, diseases, the weather, lack of time, a broken leg! So many instruments of destruction that you can't help sowing too many seeds, planting too much out, just in case.

I think my first instruction would be give away as much as you can of what you don't need to feed you and yours over the coming year. Now deal with what you have left. Return to basic principles of only making what you like, store it efficiently and make a note of what you have and where it is stored. I don't do this and waste a lot of time looking for things that I know I have. That's enough for now. Baby-steps.

Our Workshops are friendly, no experience of cooking or preserving is necessary and we try to use everyday, familiar equipment. You can cook along with the Live Workshop or use the recording which will be place in The Library of the School soon after the Workshop finishes
