Sensational Strawberries

We are delving deeper into the world of the strawberry, fragaria ananassa, to discover amazing properties which totally pass us by when we cruise the aisles of the supermarket for the BBQ desserts. It totally stopped me in my tracks when I was researching and has now poked me with a sharp stick to think about how are other plants under used.

If you can have some homegrown strawberries in your life - they taste so delicious and I find a very small handful enjoyed with some yoghurt, maybe as a breakfast, is easily traded for a mound of tasteless fruit pumped up with water on an over-sweet meringue. They are ridiculously easy to grow, multiply freely to make more and more strawberry plants that sometimes it is hard to keep up with planting them up from the strings of runners with a little plant at the end. If you have enough try potting them up then give a basket of strawberry plants to a friend - even better, gift them in a strawberry pot ready to go. A terracotta flower pot with holes in the sides to pop the plantlets into to grow on a patio or by the back door. What a gift that would make!

Our Workshops are friendly, no experience of cooking or preserving is necessary and we try to use everyday, familiar equipment. You can cook along with the Live Workshop or use the recording which will be place in The Library of the School soon after the Workshop finishes
